Toyota got in contact with us to assess their energy expenditure in terms of lighting. They keep the majority of their showroom lighting on 24/7 to illuminate the cars at night. Toyota wanted to upgrade all lighting on the premises but recognised that their bespoke showroom lighting fittings would likely pose a problem and they certainly could not be replaced due to Toyota branding guidelines.
We designed a bespoke LED gear tray that could be fixed into the interior of the lighting enclosure once the original lighting lamp holders and ballasts were removed. We replaced the diffusers to a longer lasting, thicker 6mm frosted perspex for superior diffusion and improved the functionality of the luminaries by creating a mesh networked lighting arrangement. Such technology provides all the benefits and more of what DALI compatible lighting system would but at a more reasonable price point. This allowed Toyota to configure their own wireless controller that adjusts the lighting levels to their taste. Should they ever want the lighting to work on presence detection or inline with daylight lighting levels, they have that option available.
Sidcup Toyota’s original lighting running cost per year totalled to £26,780.00 and their site-wide lighting upgrade brought down the running costs to £7,200.00 per year which represents a 73% saving. The monthly equivalent saving equals £1,650.00 per month and at least £195,700.00 over the next decade and that’s not taking account of inflation either. This upgrade will pay itself back very quickly in just 21 months.
